  • Home-made hand soap - cheap, simple and kind on your skin - only three ingredients!

Have you ever read the ingredients on the back of a hand soap bottle? YUCK, so many nasty chemicals - we have recently made the switch to our own home-made hand soap - its SO SO simple, cheaper and there are no nasty chemicals on our skin anymore, I wish we made the switch sooner.

So simple its just 3 ingredients - Liquid Castile Soap (one part), cooled boiled water (four parts) and an essential oil (we used tea tree oil- 20 drops) in a foamy soap dispenser (approx. $3 from a good soap supplier shop) - pour everything into the foamy soap dispenser put lid on and shake. You are now ready to use your new soap! Thanks to Little Eco Footprints for the idea! The link to their blog is here: http://www.littleecofootprints.com/2015/02/diy-frugal-and-natural-foaming-hand-wash.html

We bought our Liquid Castile Soap and foamy soap dispensers from Aussie Soap Supplies.

  • Upcycling plastic bottles into bird feeders

Here is a great little upcycling craft activity you may like to try with your kids. It involves using a plastic bottle to make a bird feeder. Follow the steps below and hopefully this will bring lots of nice birds into your garden!

    1. Get the kids to collect two sticks approx 30cms each from the park or garden.

    2. Get an adult to put some holes in the bottle. You will need some sharp scissors or a knife. Make sure the kids stay clear at this point. You need two holes opposite each other in the neck of the bottle. This is where you will feed the string or ribbon through to hang. You will then need four holes low down in the bottle at the four points. This will allow you to feed to sticks through to the other side and poke it out. Then about 3cms above each of those holes make four more holes (this allows the bird to sit on the stick (perch) and peck through the holes.

    3. Get the kids to decorate the bottle with paint and/or stickers or whatever you want really, my kids had fun painting then on another day they added some stickers.

    4. Put the sticks through the lower holes.

    5. Put a length of string or ribbon through the top holes (long enough to tie around whereever you are going to put the bird feeder.

    6. Attahch to a branch or whereever you want it
